In addition to comfortable cabins with central heat, the park also offers primitive camping.
The park is located three miles south of Cooper, Texas. It comprises two units: the Doctors Creek unit and the South Sulphur unit. The park features a lake with an area of nearly 19 acres (7,800 ha). It also offers primitive campsites, cabins, and horse-riding sites for riders.
Dog owners should note that Cooper Lake State Park does not allow dogs inside its buildings. In addition, you’ll need to keep your dog on a leash no longer than six feet. It is also important to bring water and waste bags for your dog. You 
must clean up after your pet thoroughly and follow all rules and regulations posted by park officials. If unsure, you can always call the park office for more information.
Cooper Lake State Park offers a bird checklist with common and specialty birds if you’re a birdwatcher. Volunteers and park staff compiled the checklist. However, the list isn’t complete and doesn’t include every species that nests at the park. You should respect other park visitors and refrain from playing bird music or recording bird songs while in the park.
Cooper Lake State Park features two boat-launch areas. If you don’t have a motor, both areas have overflow parking lots. Overflow parking is also available in the park’s campgrounds. Those campgrounds were opened in 1996. The campsites are large, and they provide easy access to the lake.
Cooper Lake State Park facilities include a 4.5-mile hiking trail with scenic views. There are also two lighted fishing piers. There are also several picnic sites and a group picnic pavilion. Campers will also find numerous restrooms and trailer dump stations at the park. The campground is well-maintained and has many sites to choose from.
Wildlife observation is another enjoyable activity at Cooper Lake State Park. Birdwatchers may be able to spot bald eagles and white pelicans. They may also notice white-tailed deer, squirrels, and beavers. Visitors can also take advantage of the lake’s fishing pier, which features good catches of bass and catfish. The park also has a three-lane boat ramp.
