Lamar University

Lamar University is a public university located in Beaumont, Texas. It has been a member of the Texas State University System since 1995. Before that, it was the flagship institution of the former Lamar University System. In the fall of 2021, it was home to 16,191 students. It offers several undergraduate and graduate programs.

The university is known for its innovative pedagogy and core curriculum. The faculty strives to engage students in learning through active participation. In 2006, the university’s new Brooks-Shivers Dining Hall was completed. Named for former Southeast Texas congressman Jack Brooks and former Texas governor Allan Shivers, the facility has a food court-style floor plan and numerous seating options. The restaurant also features a salad bar, a deli, and a pasta station.

The Mary and John Gray Library is a red brick building located on campus. It was completed in two and a half years and holds extensive physical and digital collections. It provides access to more than 48,851 journals and 142 digital databases. The library also features an online catalog and EBSCO EDS, which allows users to search across multiple databases.
