Located near Abilene, Texas, the five-hundred-and-twenty-four-acre Abilene State Park offers various recreational opportunities. The park has hiking trails, a swimming pool, and camping and trailer facilities. The area is also home to numerous birds, including the Mississippi kite, Northern cardinal, and hummingbird. Visitors can also fish in the lake and enjoy ranger-led programs.
The swimming pool at Abilene State Park was closed earlier this year, due to a back order of parts. The COVID backlog has made it difficult to find replacement parts. The park’s swimming pool was built in the 1930s, but underwent renovations in 2014. The pool reopened in April 2018.
Originally a frontier settlement, Abilene State Park is a heavily wooded area home to many species of wildlife. It is also located next to Lake Abilene, a popular fishing destination. The park also features a hiking trail and a dining hall. There is also a playground for children.
