A 500-acre lakeside park, Lake Colorado City State Park offers cabins and campsites, nature trails, and kayak rentals. The park is also perfect for fishing and swimming. You can also rent a boat to explore the waters. If you’re staying in the area, consider reserving a cabin or campsite.
Located 11 miles southwest of Colorado City, Lake Colorado City State Park has a variety of activities to enjoy. Camping, hiking, geocaching, and fishing are just a few of the outdoor pursuits that can be had here. There are also interpretive trails and a designated swimming area. There are also picnic tables, picnic areas, and boat ramps to use.
A 500-acre park, Lake Colorado City State Park is located southwest of Colorado City. The park was created in 1949 when the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) leased the property from a utility company in Mitchell County. Originally, the area was open grassland, but now the area is dominated by mesquite.
Visitors can observe a variety of birds and flowers throughout the park. Many species of butterflies call this park home. Common Buckeye, Giant Swallowtail, Dainty Sulphur, Checkered White, Orange Sulphur, Reakirta’s Blue, and Variegated Fritilary are among the many species that call the park home.
For the best viewing of wildlife, make sure to go early or late in the day. Lake Colorado City State Park is a great place to enjoy the scenery of west Texas. The park is often busy during the summer, so be sure to arrive early. A preliminary bird checklist is available at the park entrance.
Improvements will be made to Sweetwater Lake by June 2022, including a boat launch. These improvements will be implemented in consultation with the public. The changes will improve access to the property while preserving the park’s unique character. Colorado Parks and Wildlife is excited to update the facilities and amenities while improving access to the property.
