Possum Kingdom State Park is located in Palo Pinto County, Texas. This park was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps Company 2888, and opened to the public in 1950. It covers 1,530 acres in the Palo Pinto Mountains and the Brazos River Valley. It features beautiful scenery and plenty of hiking opportunities.

Possum Kingdom State Park was established in 1941 and was originally named Tyler State Park. CCC Company 2888 moved to the park in May 1941 and constructed a road and campgrounds. The park also provided basic amenities such as picnic tables and restrooms. There were ideas to make additional improvements, but World War II forced the workers to put the projects on hold.
