The University of Houston awards about 9,000 degrees each year. Some of its graduates have achieved prestigious positions in the world. Some are well known, such as Jack Valenti, the founder of the Motion Picture Association of America’s film rating system. Another notable alumnus is Julian Schnabel. Another famous hip-hop artist who attended UH is Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., Lil Wayne. He enrolled in 2005 but dropped out soon after.

In 1953, it established the nation’s first educational television station and operated an FM radio station.
