Since we’re located in the Northeastern part of the state, we do have humidity during the summer months. Most of our days are sunny, however, and our winters are very mild. It snows once in a while, usually between December and February, but you shouldn’t need your muk luks. 🙂
We get hit with an ice storm once in a blue moon, but our weather conditions are pleasant for the most part. Winter highs are normally in the 50’s or 60’s. Technically we’re located on the edge of Tornado Alley, but we are in less danger than those who live in the Panhandle.
As long as you steer clear of the trailer parks, you should be fine. 🙂
By far the best times of the year for outdoor festivities are spring and 
autumn. With dogwoods in full bloom and bluebonnets popping up in the wild, the month of April is prime time in Plano. A rain shower may put a damper on our plans at times, but we still manage to do plenty of walking, cycling, and hiking at places like the Oak Point Park & Nature Preserve on the east side of the city. During the fall, we don’t have to travel far to see the leaves changing color.
Nearly every type of business, both large and small, operates in Plano. That provides incredible jobs and the opportunity to build a fantastic life for yourself and your family. Our town is home to a long list of enterprises ranging from Fortune 1000 companies to mom and pop establishments. With the headquarters of several global corporations in the area, residents have many superb possibilities available to them.

entrepreneurial hubs. If you’ve got an idea for a business or would like to work for a start-up with HUGE potential, Plano may be just what you’re looking for.
The commute isn’t bad in Plano. The typical employee has a commute of about half an hour each day. Many of the tech firms in Plano encourage their employees to telework. How great is that? You roll out of bed, slide into your fuzzy slippers, grab a cup of coffee and head your home computer.
BOOM! You’re at work. 🙂
Since Dallas is right next door, many locals find employment there. While Dallas employers don’t have the panache and prestige of a Plano business, their pay checks clear permitting you to live indoors and eat regularly. Thus, they meet both of our critical criteria. 🙂
Without a safe environment and a strong public education system, no 
community can be an ideal place to raise a family. Fortunately Plano has both. The Plano Police Department is renowned for its professionalism and civility. Their competence and concern for Plano citizens and their well-being is indisputable.
We enjoy the same level of professionalism in our public schools. The current ratio of students to teachers across the city is approximately 15:1. That’s far below that of other cities and it shows. Plano 
students are very well represented both in acceptance at, and completion of, universities across the country.
Plano’s elevated level of quality in Police and Public Education costs. Some may say taxes and housing are expensive. Maybe, but we think it’s worth it. To live on the West side of Plano, you may pay $450,000 or more for a home. In a very desirable neighborhood, the homes may measure between 3,000 and 6,000 square feet. Some houses have very small yards and are situated very close to one another. Nevertheless, we feel perfectly safe roaming our streets at night. It is truly a family-friendly community.

There’s plenty of family-friendly fun in Plano. The historic downtown section consists of buildings that originated in the 19th century and are now occupied by a wide variety of retailers and eateries. You’ll enjoy walking through the area and chatting with folks as you stroll. It is a very friendly area. The Courtyard Theatre occupies a lovely restored framework and features some of the best entertainment in the region.
Once a month, between March and November, the Courtyard Texas 
Music Series draws a very large crowd of country music lovers. It is a very good time for everyone. Those guys know how to have fun.
Upscale shopping is a favorite pastime in Plano with the Shops at Legacy downtown and The Shops at Willow Bend on the west side. You’re going to be thrilled with what’s available and what it costs. While not inexpensive, your luxury shopping trip will probably not cost as much as you anticipated. Some shopping sites even include spas, gyms, and salons for guests who feel the need to be pampered.
The Boys in the Lotto Lab are big on being pampered. Well.. they 
think they are. They’ve yet to experience the pleasures of massage, saunas and salons. While the cost of these items are very reasonable compared to other locations, The Boys couldn’t find a salon that would accept a Lotto Texas ticket along with their assurances that “They May Have Already Won.” So, they returned to the Lotto Lair until the next drawing.

When the mood to take a look through a museum strikes, we have three from which to choose. The Interurban Railway Museum brings to life the story of the electric railway and its impact on the town. Visitors can even take a quick walk through a restored railway car. For another trip back in time, we can go to the Heritage Farmstead Museum. This registered collection of exhibits allows us to relive the olden days on the Blackland Prairie. Then we can move into the latter part of the 20th century by touring Southfork Ranch where the popular TV show “Dallas” was filmed.
I really liked that show and the remake. You expect to see Bobby, JR and Sue Ellen walk across the living room. It’s a lot of fun.
Oak Point is not the only spot in Plano that has a nature preserve; Arbor Hills Nature Preserve is also a great place for hiking, jogging, picnicking and photography. On a hot, sticky summer day indoor activities may be more appealing. We can choose from among three escape rooms or catch a movie at one of our four cinemas. If the kids are getting rowdy, the trampolines at JumpStreet might be a viable option.
Since Plano is known as the Hot Air Balloon Capital of Texas, nobody 
wants to miss the annual festival where unique, colorful balloons take participants age six and over high up in the sky. If you haven’t done it, travel by balloon is an experience you don’t want to miss. The “silent soaring” is indescribably beautiful. The ride, the balloon, the vistas you’ll see, contribute to an experience you’ll talk about for years to come.
Other events include parachute team performances, fireworks, and inflatable rides for the little ones. This event reminds us that Plano is rich with history, innovation, creativity and invention.
